What is Transvaginal Oocyte Retrieval (TVOR)?
TVOR, also known as egg retrieval, is a procedure used in IVF to collect eggs (oocytes) from the ovaries. These eggs will then be fertilized with sperm outside the body in a laboratory setting.
When is the procedure performed?
Egg retrieval occurs after the follicles containing the eggs have reached maturity. This is typically determined through ultrasound measurements and hormone tests.
What happens during the procedure?
Anesthesia: You will receive medication (anesthesia) to ensure the procedure is painless.
Egg aspiration:
A thin needle is inserted into the vagina and guided by ultrasound to reach the ovaries and follicles.
The fluid within the follicles is gently suctioned out, carrying the eggs with it.

On the day of the procedure:
Do not eat or drink anything after midnight.
Arrive on time and avoid wearing jewelry, nail polish, makeup, or contact lenses.
Provide informed consent for the procedure.
An IV line will be inserted for medication delivery.
After the procedure, you will be transferred to a recovery room and then to a ward for further monitoring.
Once your condition is stable, you will be discharged with instructions for recovery and medication (if needed).
